Meet the team on International Womens' Day 2023

As International Womens' Day 2023 has been approaching it's got us talking in Max Rocks HQ about what being a working woman/mother means to us. We haven't introduced our team for a long while and have been meaning to start a blog, so why not combine the three in one fabulous, female heavy, first blog!

So here we go! Introducing the amazing Max Rocks Team and read our thoughts on what International Womens' Day 2023 means to us.

Cherine Warehouse Manager

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
A day to celebrate women’s accomplishments around the world.

What is your greatest achievement?
My family and two little amazing human beings, Cole 8 and Indianna 6.

How important is your career to you?
I feel it is important for anyone to have a job or career, and to feel good about yourself, have confidence and have self worth.

How important are flexible working hours to you?
Flexible working hours is great, for everyone all round. If work needs extra hours we can be flexible and provide this, and if we need to help for our kids and family we have the flexibility to do so as well. Win, win.

What advice will you give to your younger self?
Be braver, take more risks and be more forthright.

What’s your International Women’s Day message?
Trust yourself - Carpe Diem!

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
A day to celebrate women from all walks of life and every celebration calls for a wine.

What is your greatest achievement?
My greatest achievement is most definitely creating 2 beautiful boys.

How important is your career to you?
I have never been very career minded, as long as I am happy where I work and enjoy the company, then thats enough for me.. I don't live to work, I work to live.

How important are flexible working hours to you?
Flexible working hours are massively important to me and I feel very lucky to have a job that offers just that

What advice will you give to your younger self?
Live life to the full, dont let others hold you back.

What’s your International Women’s Day message?
You are beautiful just as you are... So eat the damn cake!

Alicia Business website Manager

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
It’s is a call for action and positive change. To celebrate all those who have come before us for their achievements they have made when fighting for our rights and gender parity. It raises awareness for the issues we still face as woman such as discrimination, bias and abuse.

What is your greatest achievement?
As a mother, I would have to say my children especially as a mum to a fierce 4 year old daughter. I will guide her to speak up for her boundaries respectfully, to follow her dreams no matter how big, to be bold, opinionated, to have courage and be kind. I also take great pride in teaching my son to respect and celebrate strong independent women.

How important is your career to you?
At the moment, my most important choice is being present for my children. I am lucky that I am in a position that I can work part time. I want to be there for them as that is my choice.

How important are flexible working hours to you?
My husband works away in the week so flexible working allows me to look after my children if they are sick, pick them up from school everyday and take them to all their activities. As a mother, is definitely takes the pressure off and allow us the flexibility that we need to achieve in both fields.

What advice will you give to your younger self?
Pursue your passion.
Make your voice heard.
Know the power you hold within.

What’s your International Women’s Day message?
We are stronger together than we are apart.

Gemma business director

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
A celebration of all us women who got up and fought for our dreams. Succeed or fail - we did it for ourselves.

What is your greatest achievement?
Managing to build a mini empire where I could provide jobs for opportunities in South Wales.

How important is your career to you?
Extremely important for my own journey but not as important as family time.

How important are flexible working hours to you?
I wouldn’t want to be in business without the flexibility of being able to be a mum and do school runs, be there when my little one needs me and be able to go to all his events during school hours.

What advice will you give to your younger self?
Just keep going, no matter how bad the day tomorrow is always better.

What’s your International Women’s Day message?
Go for it gals!!!

What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
It's a day where we can step back and celebrate women. The achievements of women before us, the strides we are making as women today, and the young women we are raising for the future.

What is your greatest achievement?
My greatest achievement is obviously my son Max who Max Rocks is named after. I am so proud of him and the young man he is growing up to be. And a lot of that is because he is watching his mother, a strong independent woman run a successful business in a male dominated field.

How important is your career to you?
It is very important. I have worked as an illustrator/designer for over 20 years for different businesses both in the public and private sectors. When I had Max I faced many issues as a Mother who wanted a career so to run my own business now is a dream that I don’t want to end. I can finally work the hours around my son and offer other mothers flexible working hours and treat them how I wish I was treated during those early years.

How important are flexible working hours to you?
It is so important to me and my business. So many women aren’t having the fulfilment from work that they desire as they can’t find positions that suit them and their family life. By offering flexible working hours I feel that my Max Rocks team work more efficiently and are also flexible to me in return. We operate a give and take attitude - and it works. I believe that if you own a business and have the power to utilise flexible working hours then you are opening your doors to a whole new pool of talented and able women of whom you wouldn’t have had access to when only offering 9-5 positions. Why wouldn’t you want to do that?

What advice will you give to your younger self?
You don’t have to be everyones friend and you are perfect just as you are.

What’s your International Women’s Day message?
Be your authentic, unapologetic self. Chase your dreams and speak your truth.
